ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Supreme Court, Justice Iftikhar Muhamamd Chaudhry has taken suo moto notice of upto 22 hours of massive power outage in FATA and Mohmand Agency.
The notice was taken on a letter address to the CJ by Senator Hilalur Rahman, in which he alleged that the area was faced with load shedding even during the time of ‘Sehr’ and ‘Iftar’.
In his letter, he said WAPDA officials have repeatedly been approached to redress the grievances but all proved to be in vain.
Chief Justice has converted Senator Hilal’s letter into petition, and sought reply from the National
Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC).
It is pertinent to mention here that different areas across the country faced power outages during Sehar and Iftar timings despite government s clear orders that no load-shedding would take place during key Ramazan timings.
On July 6, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Pervez Rasheed had announced that electricity load shedding will not be carried out during Sehar, Iftar and Taraweeh timings during the holy month of Ramazan.
Electricity shortages, which have plagued Pakistan for years, have reached crisis proportions. Lights go out for at least 8 hours a day in major cities of Punjab, and up to 12 hours a day in rural areas. (monitoring desk)
