ISLAMABAD, : Supreme Court on Friday directed Sindh police chief to submit challan about the killing of a taxi driver by paramilitary rangers force in Karachi within one week.
On July 18, the Supreme Court took suo motu notice of the murder of a taxi driver in Karachi.
The case was heard by a three-judge bench comprising Chief Justice Chaudhry, Justice Jawwad S Khawaja and Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed.
Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry during the course of hearing termed the incident as remorseful and said this is not the first time Rangers officers have
acted irresponsibly, while recalling the killings of Sarfaraz Shah and Ghulam Haider by Rangers personnel.
“If rangers have arms in their hands, they should use it according to law,” CJP remarked.
“The court will intervene if forces commit such things.”
The chief justice said: “We also stand by forces when it is due.” The Balochistan High Court supported the forces in yesterday’s incident of Quetta, Justice Chaudhry said.
He questioned why the FIR was not lodged by Director General of Rangers.
The court expressed its anger for making the widow of the slain taxi driver as plaintiff. The widow reached the scene after the murder of her husband, her status is of a witness.
A lawyer representing the rangers told the apex court that four rangers personnel were handed over to police for investigation. –
The court directed IG Sindh to submit challan about the killing of a taxi driver by paramilitary rangers force in Karachi within one week and adjourned the hearing till July 26. (monitoring desk)
