Mending ties: Sartaj Aziz visits Afghanistan today

ISLAMABAD: Advisor to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz will pay a one day visit to Kabul on Sunday with a good will message to improve the fragile ties between the two countries.
Advisor to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs and National Security Sartaj Aziz has said Pakistan is committed to a good and positive relationship with Afghanistan.
In an interview with The Wall Street Journal‚ Sartaj Aziz said he would hold talks with Afghan leaders during his visit to Kabul on improving relations between the two countries and preparing agenda for Afghan President Hamid Karzai's visit to Pakistan.

He said he will also discuss pending trade agreement between the two countries during the visit
Meanwhile according to sources, Sartaj Aziz would be accompanied by Foreign Secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani and other senior foreign office officials. The advisor will hold talks with Afghan President Hamid Karzai and senior Afghan officials on the reconciliation process and other matters of mutual interests.
Sources said that the Pakistani delegation would convey a good will message to Afghan authorities that the new government in Pakistan would fully cooperate with Afghanistan in the reconciliation process. The delegation would also discuss matters related to Pak-Afghan relations, regional situation and proposed peace talks with the Taliban
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has extended an invitation to Hamid Karzai to visit Pakistan. During his visit‚ Sartaj Aziz will deliver a formal invitation to the Afghan president.
The visit of Sartaj Aziz will be the first high level exchange between the two countries since the assumption of new government in Pakistan.
