SC directs to initiate proceedings against Musharraf under article 6


ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) has disposed off all the petitions seeking registration of treason case against the former president Pervez Musharraf directing the government to initiate proceedings against him  under article 6.
A 3-member bench of SC headed by Justice Jawad S Khawaja heard the petitions seeking prosecution of Pervez Musharraf under article 6 Wednesday.
Justice Jawad S Khawaja remarked “ All the eyes are set on the government. We hope no unnecessary delay will be made. Government should play its role

for the supremacy of law and constitution. Federation should initiate proceedings under article 6. ”.
Attorney General (AG) told the court Prime Minister has constituted a 3-member special committee of FIA to make investigation as per article 6 of the constitution in the light of  orders of SC  and request of the petitioners and the committee has started proceedings. Nothing can be said about what charges are instituted  against Pervez Musharraf. All the matters will come before us after inquiry is concluded. Proceedings against Pervez Musharraf will be finalized soon. We hold out assurance to the court and the petitioners that all possible steps will be taken for the sake of supremacy of justice and constitution.
Justice Jawad S Khawaja inquired from AG during the course of hearing if any progress has been made with regard to constitution of special court.
AG said nothing was known to him in this respect so far.
Ikram Chaudhry prayed the court time frame be sought in regard to proceedings and inquiry committee.
Justice Jawad remarked “ all the constitutional formalities be met . No time frame can be given with regard to inquiry. All the eyes are set on government with reference to Musharraf case. We will see what it does. It is not known allegation comes against one accused or against 483 persons”.
Ibrahim Satti counsel for Musharraf requested the court to order for deleting the name of Musharraf from Exit Control List (ECL).
The court remarked “ we can not give any commitment about time frame. Placing or removing name of Musharraf from ECL is the job of government. What job was to be done by the court has been done. The remaining is to be done by the government.
The court expressed satisfaction over the steps taken by the government under article 6 against Pervez Musharraf and disposed off all the petitions.
