PM Nawaz orders to cancel contracts of corrupt officials


ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has ordered all the federal secretaries to cancel the contracts of the corrupt officials.
In a letter to the federal secretaries, the prime minister said that government s top priority is to root out corruption from every sector. He said there is no room for corrupt persons in our government.
Nawaz Sharif also stated that his directives should be implemented in letter and spirit for better results.
He said corruption is a big hurdle in the way to provide facilities to masses, adding that officials of

bad repute cannot provide good governance.
PM Nawaz also directed that transparency and law should be exercised at all costs in the ministries.
Pakistan has had a consistently poor ranking at the Transparency International s Corruption Perceptions Index with scores of 2.5 in 2011, 2.3 in 2010, and 2.5 in 2009 out of 10.
In 2011, Pakistan ranked 134 on the index with 42 countries ranking worse. In 2012, Pakistan s ranking dropped even further from 134 to 139, making Pakistan the 34th most corrupt country in the world, tied with Azerbaijan, Kenya, Nepal, and Nigeria.
The 2012 index ranks 176 countries by their perceived levels of public sector corruption. (Monitoring Desk)
